I want to thank everyone who supported my campaign. You donated, volunteered, and engaged because we shared a vision for a school board that boosts learning overall through increased engagement, belonging, and partnership.

I will prioritize all students having equitable access to safe, nurturing, and welcoming schools. Every single student deserves to be valued and respected for who they are, engaged in their learning journey, and supported in their pathway to academic success.

Thank you to everyone who encouraged me to run and cheered me on throughout the process! Your support means so much to me. I am excited about this opportunity to serve our students, families, and Bend-La Pine community!

In partnership,
Cameron

EXPERIENCED

PROACTIVE

My commitment to local schools is both professional and personal – I am a mom of two teenagers, a career educator and a dedicated community member active in boards and non-profits.

Through collaboration, commitment, and creative problem solving, I will work to ensure all students have equitable access to safe, nurturing and welcoming schools to maximize student learning.

To boost learning overall, my priorities are to increase:

ENGAGEMENT

When students, families, and educators are engaged in the learning journey, students succeed academically, attend school regularly, and graduate on time.

I pledge to foster more student, family and educator engagement to improve student academic success by working to identify and remove barriers to learning, advocate for more family involvement in educational decision-making, and support educators through improved recruitment and retention efforts.

BELONGING

All students deserve to feel safe, supported, and valued in their schools – and it is essential for learning.

I pledge to promote a greater sense of belonging for all students, families, and educators by advocating for more bullying prevention and intervention training and by encouraging more collaborative and inclusive school communities in order to increase learning, and reduce chronic absenteeism, suspensions, and other disciplinary issues.

PARTNERSHIP

Schools can’t do it alone. To ensure high quality public education for all students, partnerships are essential for students to be as healthy as possible – mentally, emotionally, physically, and academically.

I pledge to protect limited educational resources by expanding school-community partnerships and cultivating collective action to address shared problems like the mental health crisis, homelessness, school security, technology issues, workforce shortages, and learning loss.

Meet Cameron

My name is Cameron Fischer (she/her) and I am excited to be a candidate for Bend-La Pine School Board, Zone 3! I am running because I want to continue the work our current school board has begun: promoting excellence and equity in our public schools. I am proud to have the encouragement of all seven current school board members, and many other community members as well.

For the last 18 years, I have taught courses at Oregon State University. My courses include Children and Youth with Disabilities; Families, School and Community Collaboration; Families and Poverty; Partnerships and Ideologies in ESOL Education; and Using Data to Support All Students. Prior to that, I spent 10 years in the field of special education as a teacher, educational and behavioral consultant, and educational assistant. I have a master’s degree in Education and a doctorate in Educational Leadership with an Equity Concentration. I’m also a mom of two teenagers, both of whom have attended Bend-La Pine Schools since kindergarten.

Throughout my 18 years in Central Oregon, I have prioritized service to my community. I currently serve on Bend’s Human Rights and Equity Commission (HREC), the Deschutes County Behavioral Health Advisory Board (BHAB), the Steering Committee for Central Oregon Research Coalition (CORC), and as a community cadre lead for Restorative Justice and Equity. I also serve as board member for The Shadow Project, a Portland-based nonprofit that partners with Oregon school districts to support neurodivergent students by strengthening their reading skills, school engagement, and self-regulation skills.
